INTRODUCTION

In this task we are doing a COMIC explaining 20 most important contributions that we find in the last 50 years. 

These are the 20 moments that we think that are the most important and relevant. 

  1. 1972 (Salmon). - Television could be used in learning processes.researchers produced evidence that television was actually more effective for instruction than pictures aiding text alone (Spangenberg, 1973) and that some television programs were even effective in teaching children general cooperation and rule following skills (Paulson, 1974).  

  2. 1980s – Rise of Personal Computers in Education: The proliferation of personal computers, such as the Apple II and IBM PC, made technology more accessible in classrooms.

  3. In the 1990s, the internet became a global, public network and grew from one site in 1991 to over three million sites in 1999. Yahoo, Amazon, and Google were founded.

  4. 1992 - SMS text messaging was invented. Digital cameras

  5. 1990s – Growth of Internet-Based Learning:The expansion of the internet facilitated online courses and resources, broadening educational opportunities.

  6. 1998 – Google Founded: The emergence of Google improved information retrieval, benefiting educational research and learning. 

  7. 1999 – Introduction of Interactive Whiteboards: Tools like SMART Boards began replacing traditional blackboards, enhancing interactive learning.

  8. 2001 – Wikipedia Launched: The free, collaborative online encyclopedia became a widely used educational resource.

  9. Facebook 2004 explored the social aspect of the platform to see how university students shared informal information related to their classes in an effort to connect socially with other students (Madge et al., 2009).

  10. Blended Learning : In 2004, Garrison and Hanuka defined blended learning as “thoughtful integration of classroom face-to-face learning experiences with online learning experiences,” and argued that, "blended learning is consistent with the values of traditional higher education institutions and has the proven potential to enhance both the effectiveness and efficiency of meaningful learning experiences”

  11. 2004 – Khan Academy Founded: Sal Khan's platform provided free online tutorials, popularizing video-based learning.

  12. 2005 – Launch of YouTube: YouTube became a platform for educational content, allowing teachers and students to share and access videos.

  13. 2008 – Introduction of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs): Platforms like Coursera and edX offered free courses to a global audience.  

  14. 2010 – iPad Released: Apple's tablet device found applications in education, supporting interactive and mobile learning.

  15. Social Media, 2011: They found that “using Twitter in educationally relevant ways had a positive effect on student engagement” and a positive effect on grades. 

  16. Mobile devices in Learning: They collected data by conducting focus groups of university students in the attempt to answer the question, “What are students’ experiences when mobile computing devices are integrated into higher education courses?” (p. 18). They found that students’ mobile device use often allowed them to access course content anywhere and empowered them to “captur[e] information outside of the learning environment and mak[e] connections with the material” (p. 24). This finding that “learning happens regardless of location” is one of the main findings of Gikas and Grant’s study (p. 25).

  17. 2014 – Google Classroom Launched: Google's platform streamlined the creation and distribution of assignments in schools.

  18. 2016 – Virtual Reality (VR) in Education: VR tools like Google Expeditions provided immersive learning experiences.

  19. 2017 – Rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in EdTech: AI-powered tutoring systems and personalized learning platforms gained prominence.

  20. 2020 – COVID-19 Pandemic and Shift to Remote Learning: The pandemic forced a rapid transition to online education worldwide.
